The two most important essentials in any actor’s toolkit is a Standard English and Standard American accent. Waiting for a reason to tackle either is like waiting for somebody else to take the job: if you’re serious about your craft you should be conversant in both.
This new workshop will focus on Standard American, highlighting the various stages (and potential pitfalls) in any accent work.
We will check individual accuracy by listing the basic sounds and then record examples of each (in sentence form).
We will look at how, by expanding our understanding thus far, we can then analyse short written passages, gradually expanding our observations into simple conversation. Day two will consist of a recap in the form of Q&A which will then be followed by individual tryouts. It has to be said that, in a workshop environment, progress will sometimes be slow but at no point will it be without benefit to the majority.
This intensive 2 day workshop will give participants a unique opportunity to hone their skills and work with one of the world’s most in demand Acting and Voice Coaches. Gerry has collaborated extensively with Heath Ledger on numerous projects including The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus and Batman: The Dark Knight, and has worked frequently with Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis, Oscar Isaac, Joel Edgerton, Abbie Cornish, Natalie Portman (Jane Got A Gun) Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) Marlon Brando, Sean Penn, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, Amy Adams, Kate Hudson, Ewan McGregor, Orlando Bloom and many more.
This workshop is aimed at actors with previous Film or TV experience.
