Complete your theory training online in the comfort of your own home or at work. Stop/start when it suits you and complete the online modules at your own pace. Can be completed on multiple devices such as laptop, smart-phone, desktop computer, kindle, tablet etc.

PART 2 (PRACTICAL SESSIONS) - JOIN US FOR A COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICAL SKILLS ZOOM SESSION:

Safely and competently set up and maintain a Peripheral IV Infusion.

Full instructions will be provided. We will send you a completely free Practise@Home Cannulation Training Kit, including a mini-arm trainer, for you to keep. You will follow your tutor's on-screen instructions during your Zoom virtual classroom sessions as you learn and develop your cannulation skills. The procedures and practices taught online are exactly the same as you would learn in the classroom. At any time before or after your course you can watch our 30 minute step-by-step video to refresh your knowledge and continue to use your training kit to practice your skills.

Definitions - understanding terminology relating to PIVC.
IV Therapy and NMC guidelines.
M2 - Legal & Professional Responsibilities:
Legal Obligations and Accountability. Criminal, Civil and
Contractual law in Healthcare. Vicarious Liability and your
Duty of Care.
M3 - Anatomy & Physiology:
Sites appropriate to IV cannulation. Hand vs. arm.
Advantages and disadvantages of relevant veins.
An overview of Homeostasis and Fluid Balance.
M4 - Hygiene and Infection Prevention & Control (IPC):
Reducing healthcare-associated infections. Keeping Safe.
Bloodborne Pathogens and Work Practice Controls.
Standard Precautions. Waste Disposal. Needle-stick injuries.
M5 - Indications and Advantages:
When to cannulate, infusion types and benefits over
alternative infusion routes. Continuous and intermittent infusion.
Prophylactic use before procedures and in unstable patients.
Contraindications.
M6 - Equipment:
Cannula types, sizes and colour coding. How to select
appropriate size. Equipment overview for total procedure.
M7 - Vein Choice for Cannulation:
Correct vein selection. Which veins to avoid.
How to manage an unsuccessful cannulation.

2 - Legal & Professional Responsibilities:
Overview and discussion.
3 - Anatomy - key points (appropriate to PIVC):
Arteries and veins. Selecting an approprate site. Sites to avoid and “first choice” sites.
4 - Cannulae - selection and types:
A detailed look at different types of cannulas, respective benefits and attributes. Selectinng an appropriate pVAD.
5 - Complications:
Complications of pVAD insertion including examples of
infiltration, haematoma, extravasation and transfixation.
6 - VIP Score:
Understanding and using the Visual Infusion Phlebitis score.
7 - Equipment - overview:
We take a look at all essential equipment required for PIVC.
8 - PRACTICAL SESSIONS:
Multiple practical sessions throughout the session.
9 - Fluids:
The importance of understanding fluids. Includes detailed overview of: maintenance fluids, Hartmann’s solution, Colloids (and risks), blood products.
10 - Infusion Rates:
Calculating infusion rates and drops per minute.

This Vaccination / Injection Course is a nurse or paramedic-led half-day session covering all essential theory and practical skill-sets required to deliver effective Intramuscular, Intradermal and Subcutaneous injections / vaccinations.
